28 March 1774 A.D. Britain Passes 2nd (of 4) Coercive Acts Revoking Massachusett’s Colonial Charter—Called the Massachusetts Government Act


1774Britain passed the second Coercive Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, which revoked the Massachusetts colonial charter and removed certain democratic elements of the government. The upper legislative house would be appointed by the crown, as would sheriffs who, in turn, would appoint juries. Additionally, the Massachusetts Government Act placed restrictions on the number of town meetings that could be held.
